Academic Events

In tandem with my scholarly and teaching achievements, I have been active in conducting, organizing, and coordinating film screenings and festivals, academic events, and extra curricular activities.

I have co‐organized (with Jung-‐bong Choi) an international film studies conference titled Korean Cine-‐Media and the Transnational at New York University in 2010. At the University of Michigan, I was a principal organizer of an interdisciplinary workshop Hallyu 2.0: The Korean Wave in the Age of Social Media which was held on April 6, 2012. I have edited Hallyu 2.0: The Korean Wave in the Age of Social Media (2015) based on the papers presented at the event. At NTU, utilizing Singapore’s geographical advantages, I have organized multiple international film studies conferences, workshops, and symposiums as well as a series of colloquia that brought some of the world’s most prominent scholars in Asian cinema to Singapore.

My most recent academic event is The Origins of the South Korean Film Renaissance. This Lingnan University-University of Washington joint film studies conference was held at M+ in Hong Kong on 2-4 November 2023.
